Craniosacral Treatment and Birth Trauma
Part 5

Craniosacral Therapy involves the gentle manipulation and normalization of the cranial bones, vertebrae and other musculo-skeletal structures of the body. Treatment also focuses on the integrity of the underlying membranes that attach to the cranial bones and continue down to the sacrum, as they surround and support the brain and spinal cord.

Any imbalance of the craniosacral system can result in imbalances of the gross anatomical structures, with either immediate manifestations, or (as the body grows into imbalance), symptoms that appear later on in life. Even the most subtle of imbalances in the deep anatomy of the cranium can produce a myriad of unwanted symptoms.

The goal of Craniosacral Therapy is to bring the skeletal structure, connective tissue and their underlying attachments, back into balance. A general principle of this work is that as the structure is normalized, healthy function will follow. In babies, this means establishing underlying balance and health that sets up an optimal healthy template for future growth.

Craniosacral treatment is gentle and non-invasive, and its focus on the integrity of the cranium and its internal structures makes it particularly relevant for the treatment of infants and babies. Treatment is peaceful and relaxing and can take place whilst the child is asleep, lying in their parent’s arms or feeding.
